Why do the people at the ends of the table have so many bells? |
|
|
|
Usually, one ringer handles about four bells, the equivalent
to two white keys on the piano and the adjacent black keys.
This sufficiently covers the bells and keeps everyone busy.
However, the bells on the ends are not played as often on the
average, so they are combined into one position. This
keeps the size of the choir down and also makes sure that
nobody is "left out" simply because there is no part
for the bells they play.
