Historical Note
Volume VI was recorded at Union Church in March 1990 using a studio-style process. It was the last recording created by the ensemble without a live audience. Volume VI features a full hour of music, half of which are holiday selections with the remainder representing several concert selections performed by the choir, including classical music and original compositions written specifically for handbells.
From the Insert
The Allegro Handbell choir is composed of fifteen high
school age members with one to eight years' ringing experience. An integral part of
the music program of the Union Church of Hinsdale (United Church of Christ), the group
also performs for a variety of civic, charitable, educational, and professional
organizations, as well as guest appearances at other churches. They have toured
extensively in the United States, Europe, and Canada.
Conducted by Michael Surratt, Director of Music and
Organist at the Union Church since 1979, the bell ringers perform with five octaves (61)
of Schulmerich bells, made in Sellersville, Pennsylvania.
