Allegro X: LIVE Volume X
The 2003 Allegro Handbell Ensemble
Released: June 2003 Original Medium: Compact Disc Price: $15.00
|
Historical Note In a change of pace from previous recordings, Volume X was recorded before the annual summer tour so that it could be released in time for the 2003 European Concert Tour. After two albums separating holiday and concert music, this CD returns to Allegro's tradition of producing half-and-half recordings.
From the Insert
The Allegro Handbell Ensemble was formed in 1971 and since then has been a strong part of the music programs at the Union Church of Hinsdale (United Church of Christ) in Hinsdale, Illinois. There are currently twelve members, ages 15 to 18, who have been ringing one to seven years. In addition to participating in the music program at Union Church, the group has performed for a variety of civic, charitable, educational, and professional organizations, on Chicago television programs, as well as guest appearances at other churches. Since 1975, they have made twenty-one concert tours throughout the United States and parts of Canada and Mexico. The 2003 tour to Sweden, Denmark, and Germany is the seventh European tour.
The ringers perform with five octaves (61 bells) of Schulmerich handbells made in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, and with a matching five octaves of Malmark handchimes made in Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania. Their concert programs include sacred and secular music ranging from the 17th to the 20th centuries. More information about the ensemble is available on the web at <www.allegrobells.org>.
